Georgia Islands

Last week I stayed in Georgia with my daughters and grands. Both of their husbands were away, so it was the perfect time for us to share a good time. It has been some years since we have had that opportunity. We explored the South Georgia coastal islands each day. I was able to get several reference photos for future paintings, thanks to my daughter and her IPhone.

This painting is of dunes on Jeckyll Island. It is a favorite island for me. It has some commercial aspects, but less than St Simons and Tybee. We also explored Skidway Island.

We went to the Georgia Aquarium, and the Nature Center on Tybee Island, both wonderful and well worth the trip. We will definitely go to both in the cooler months. It was very hot there last week.

The seafood in that area was fantastic. We had lunch out twice. Both restaurants were fish camp style, casual and absolutely delicious! Great appetizers, great seafood, hush puppies made right, good salads.

Florida Citrus Trees

I have always loved citrus trees so much. As my younger self, I remember traveling down US 27 through endless miles of groves. When in bloom the aroma was incredible and intoxicating. These memories are forever favorite for me.  My daddy took me upstairs to the roof of the citrus shop on US441. The groves grew all the way down to Orange Lake. What a view.

Alas, there is little left of our citrus industry in Florida. I have been doing many paintings of the trees this year. People who grew up here still love the iconic symbol of Florida. Painting these trees are part of my mission, to record what is left of real Florida, for future generations to know it as I do.
