My Studio

My studio is precious to me. I’ve had many in my long career. From an old cigar factory where pigeons defecated all over the floor, to my current studio, I’ve loved them all.

My current studio was my daddy’s workshop in its first life. It was bare bones with stud walls on concrete, concrete floors and machines throughout. He was a machinist by trade. He had an old work bench where I played carpenter, pounding nails into the bench and playing with the vice, bolted to one end. We spent happy times together there.

After he passed, it sat for a few years abandoned, while I lived away. I moved home with my two girls and it was remodeled into a tiny house for us. Eventually they grew up and started their adult lives. I turned it into the studio I love today.

Each time I walk in I feel daddy’s presence. I feel cozy and at home there. It has been improved over the years, suffered damage and flooding during hurricane Irma, was redone then and was once again moved around to be Covid safe. It has kept its country, comfy aura and still has concrete floors in one room, perfect for a painter.

Studios are special for country painters......
